National franchise makes state debut under Oxford couple

An Oxford couple recently opened a medical spa in Rochester Hills and in doing so, helped a national franchise make its debut in the state of Michigan.
Steve and Lori McCracken are the proud new owners of a Radiance Medspa located in the Village of Rochester Hills shopping district on North Adams Road.
The couple was awarded the company’s 66th franchise nationally, the first in the entire state.
‘We’ve been working on it for about a year,? Lori said. ‘We had always talked about opening either a salon or a spa at some point, someday.?
‘We wanted something a little bit more fun to do,? something that would allow for a better balance between work and family, according to Steve.
Medspas, or Medical Spas, are a new and rapidly growing industry that concentrates specifically on rejuvenating skin treatments. They are licensed outpatient facilities where medicine is integrated with alternative, non-surgical skin therapies.
‘It’s a spa setting, so it’s tranquil,? Lori said. ‘But you can still get medical procedures done, all the non-invasive procedures.?
Radiance Medspas offer a wide range of skin care procedures including facials, Microdermabrasion, chemical peels, intense pulse light photofacials and treatment of acne scars, Rosacea, vascular blemishes and pigment irregularities.
Wrinkle reduction products such as Botox, Captique and Restylane will be featured as well as several lines of specially formulated, physician-only skin care products.
All of the non-surgical treatment options are done under the care and guidance of Dr. Gina Gora, M.D. and a highly trained staff which includes two nurses.
‘All of our staff went to Arizona and had a week of training,? Lori said. ‘It’s nice to have the backing of the franchise.?
Laser hair removal, waxing and massage therapy are also available at the McCrackens? 2,400-square-foot facility boasting five treatment rooms.
Given Lori’s previous experience working at Roots hair salon in Oxford for about six years, opening a medspa seemed to be natural next step for her.
For Steve, however, it’s a complete departure from his work in the manufacturing industry.
His grandfather founded the Oxford-based Auto-Matic Press on N. Glaspie Street in 1962.
Steve worked in the family business for 10 years until the plant and land was sold in fall 2005.
‘We were small and healthy, but I think the hand-writing was on the wall for longterm (as far as) me passing it down to my kids,? he said.
Steve’s looking foward to owning and operating a business he and his wife can both enjoy coming to everyday.
