Oxford and Addison approves putting senior center on ballot

Oxford and Addison township officials voted to place two tax increases on the November ballot to finance a proposed senior center for Oxford, Addison and Orion townships.
Oxford voters will be asked to approve a bond proposal calling for property owners to pay an approximately 0.2-mill tax over 20 years to retire a $2.815 million bond debt.
The total bond proposal is for $9.85 million with residents in each township paying apporximately the same millage rate for the bond.
However, each community would contribute a different amount that varies according to its total taxable value.
Oxford would contribute $2.815 million Addison $1.085 million and Orion $5.95 million.
According to the bond language, the bonds cannot be issued unless voters in all three townships approve the proposition.
To operate and maintain the center, voters will be asked to approve a 10-year, 0.25-mill tax.
Orion officials last week approved placing these proposals on the Nov. 7 ballot.
