Whether you want swimming, the beach or a place to barbeque, Green’s Park offers all three and more.
“The park is a great atmosphere for families,” said Rosemary Ford, a member of the Village of Lake Orion Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.
It features a beach and swim area that has lifeguards on duty, a plus for families with kids swimming, Ford added.
For people looking for some out of the water fun, the park also has a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pit, swings, a slide and a basketball court. Fishing is also available.
A park pass is required to enter the park during regular season, which runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Park passes are offered on a daily basis or as a seasonal pass. Cost is based on residency status, and passes can be purchased at Lake Orion Village Hall, located at 21 E. Church Street in downtown Lake Orion, or online at lakeorion.org for an additional fee. Day passes can also be purchased at Green’s Park.
The park has picnic tables, grills, and a bathroom facility, and is available for rent for birthday parties, weddings and other types of gatherings, according to Ford.
For rental information, interested individuals need to contact the Village Offices at 248-693-8391, ext. 100.
Another big draw to Green’s Park is their summer swim lessons.
According to Green’s Park Director Debi McDonald, spots are still available for this year’s lessons.
“We offer water safety, both for pools and lakes,” McDonald said, noting they want to prepare swimmers for both types of water.
In addition to water safety and demonstrations, participants also learn various swim skills based on their level. On the first day of lessons, swimmers are evaluated and then grouped accordingly, McDonald explained.
This summer’s swim lessons are offered in two sessions; the first session runs Monday, June 27 through July 8, with the second session from Monday, July 11 through July 22.
Class times are 10 to 10:45 a.m. and 11 to 11:45 a.m. Spots are still available for these sessions. A third session may run later in July, if needed.
Lessons can be registered for in person at the village hall or on the village website for an additional fee. Cost is based on residency status.
Green’s Park, located off of M-24 and south of Flint Street, is open Monday through Thursday, noon to 7 p.m. and Friday through Sunday, noon to 8 p.m.
