Small Business Saturday returns Nov. 27

Just about everyone has heard of Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving that is traditionally considered the biggest shopping day of the year, and Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving when people search for the best deals online.

Sandwiched in between these is Shop Small Business Saturday, a day when consumers are encouraged to head down to main street and support locally-owned businesses.

Lake Orion’s Downtown Development Authority will be at the corner of Broadway and Flint Streets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with gourmet hot cocoa, stamping downtown holiday shopping passports and giving out prizes should shoppers earn them.

How the passports work:

Shoppers must make a minimum $25 purchase at a Downtown Lake Orion store or restaurant. Make sure to ask for a duplicate receipts with the business name and keep it in your passport envelope. Only one receipt per store per day will be counted toward your prize. Complete for squares to receive a prize. Bring your passport and receipts to the DDA office to be stamped and collect prizes (all prizes are while supplies last).
1st four purchases = $10 Dragon Dollars
eight purchases = Lake Orion SWAG
12 purchases = $25 Dragon Dollars
16 purchases = Mystery Bonus

The shopping passport contest ends on Dec. 31.
