Senior of the Week — Ava Hawkins

Parents: Myke and Tonya Hawkins
Grade: 12
GPA: 3.75
Favorite subject(s): Choir and Social Studies
Extracurricular activities: Theatre and Choir
Hobbies/Interests: Guitar, dance, piano
Plans after graduation: Get a degree in vocal performance and do opera.
Ava is proudest of: Staying dedicated to piano for 13 years.
Ava makes a contribution by: I take on leadership roles, I’m a state thespian officer and a choir officer and am on the international thespian student leadership committee, I do all of these things so that I can help the arts be a safe space for everyone, and be a place they feel happy in and get enjoyment from. I try to always be positive, because you never know what type of day someone is having.
Where Ava sees herself in 10-20 years: Performing at opera houses and maybe teaching music classes as a professor.
What concerns Ava in the world: The treatment of women and underrepresented communities. There is absolutely zero reason for anyone in this world to feel like they aren’t enough, or not safe. This world needs more people to shed they’re bright light. This world would be a better place if people just took the time to understand others before judging, and not worrying about things that don’t concern them. We need to learn to be more patient, and accepting of all walks of people. At the end of the day people just want to be heard, so let them speak.
Favorite thing about Lake Orion High School: The opportunities to explore my passions.
Recommending Teacher: Matthew Smith

  1. I’m Jane I’m good friends with ava Hawkins since 5th grade! I’m so proud of her and she will have a great future. When I herd her at state solo and ensemble she sang her heart out. I love her she is like a sister to me .
