Oakland County Champs!

Lake Orion’s seniors are living up to their motto, “It’s Time.”

The team won the Oakland County Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Kensington Metropark in Milford.

The Dragon boys dominated the field, earning a low score of 75 for first place. Milford was second with 143, Walled Lake Northern was third with 145 and Detroit Catholic Central was fourth with a 146 out of the 37 teams that competed.

“Their four years of hard work and development is paying off,” said head coach Stan Ford.

Dragon Adam Hafeli was fifth overall, Clayton Kuiper was sixth, Will Houvener was eighth and Hong Bing Tang, 13th, all medaled. Ronnie Leonard, (43rd), finished the team scoring.

Jacob Gleason and junior Luke Peardon also represented the varsity team.

Assistant Coach Mike Hatch handled the coaching duties while coach Stan Ford was in California for his son’s wedding, Ford said.

“They overcame a mid-season case of covid, and some injuries, but it is a testament to the team that they could overcome these distractions and perform on race day,” Ford said.

The team next competes in the Oxford Invite on Friday at Friendship Park in Orion Township.
