Four Lake Orion girls varsity cross country runners competed in the Michigan High School Athletic Association 7-1 Region meet at Clintonwood Park in Clarkston on Friday.

And while the team’s season is now finished, senior Sophie Novak will move on to the MHSAA Division 1 state championship meet this Friday, her fourth appearance at a state meet.

Novak finished fifth overall at the regional meet, running the 5,000-meter course in 18:51.9, more than 30 seconds faster than her fourth-place overall finish at the pre-regional meet at 19:28.8.

Besides Novak, sophomore Annika Russell finished 53rd at 20:59, a season best time for her.

Freshman Lauren Dumeah finished 45th at 20:34.9, a personal record, edging out fellow freshman Mackie Shoskey, who finished 46th at 20:36.6.

Freshman Megyn Fox qualified for the regional meet but did not compete.

The Lake Orion girls varsity cross country runners finished fifth overall at the MHSAA 14-1 pre-regional cross country meet on Oct. 23, ending the season for the team as a whole.
