LOHS wrestling dominates at first annual Flint Hamady tournament

The Lake Orion High School wrestling team resumed league play on Jan. 15 facing two Rochester Schools: Rochester and Adams high schools.

The first match of the night was against Rochester High with Rochester taking the meeting 44-31.

The second match was an even closer affair with Adams coming out on top 37-28.

Senior Issac Kinne went 2-0 on the night winning both matches with pins. Juniors Anthony Vellucci and Dominic Orselli also recorded two wins on the night.

The weekend saw the team competing at the first annual Flint Hamady tournament.

The Dragons came away victorious in all five matches, leading to a first place victory.

Many wrestlers were 5-0 on the day including seniors Andrew Miller, James McCoy, Issac Kinne and Mason Slocum. Juniors Anthony Vellucci and Dominic Orselli also went undefeated, as did freshman Judah Kinne.

Freshman wrestler Abe Luebbert, wrestling in his first varsity tournament, got his first career varsity pin.

Jan. 22 will see another home meet featuring Grand Blanc, Flint Carman-Ainsworth and Walled Lake Central coming to Lake Orion. This will also be the annual Alumni/Youth meet. All former Lake Orion wrestlers and all youth wrestlers are welcom to join the team at the meet to be recognized.

The team will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1990 State Championship team.
