LOHS Thespians to perform ‘Macbeth’ – in modern English – at Wildwood

The Lake Orion High School Thespian Troupe will perform its summer show, William Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth”, at Wildwood Amphitheater with shows from Thursday through Sunday.

Performances are at 7 p.m. on Sept. 9-11 and at 2 p.m. on Sept. 12 and will be in modern English, said Assistant Director Lexi Davis.

All performances are free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to Wildwood, which is an outdoor venue.

Macbeth is a tragedy by Shakespeare that dramatizes the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake.

Three witches tell the Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King of Scotland. Encouraged by his wife, Macbeth kills the king, becomes the new king, and kills more people out of paranoia.

Civil war erupts to overthrow Macbeth, resulting in more death.

There are roughly 40 members of the cast and crew. Bryan Donoghue, the president of the theater troupe, is directing and Lexi Davis, the vice president, is assistant directing.

Wildwood Amphitheater is at 2700 Joslyn Court. – J.N.
