LO Swim & Dive team earns top honors at state meet

Lady Dragons set team, individual varsity records

 

The Lake Orion varsity girls swim and dive team completed their season with a convincing showing at the state championship meet on Nov. 19, finishing in eighth place as a team.
This is the fourth consecutive top-10 finish for the Lady Dragons at the state meet.
Senior captains Sarah Hennings and Zoe Quinn and sophomore Claire Abbasse led the Lake Orion girls’ to a strong eighth-place finish at the MHSAA Division 1 swimming and diving state championships at Oakland University, said Head Coach Darin Abbasse.
On the individual side, Abbasse and Hennings turned in All-State performances.
Abbasse was third in the 100-meter Freestyle with a time of 50.29 seconds, setting a new varsity record. She also finished fourth in the 50-meter Freestyle with a time of 23.55 seconds.
Hennings placed fifth in the 100-meter Fly, finishing in 56.15 seconds, and eighth in the 100-meter Backstroke at a time of 57.93 seconds, setting a new LOHS varsity record as well, Abbasse said.
Quinn also came in tenth in the 50-meter Freestyle at 24 seconds, and 19th in the 100-meter Freestyle with a time of 53.24 seconds.
Abbasse, Hennings and Quinn also led the Lady Dragons’ relay efforts. They joined with senior Amanda Keller to place seventh in the 200-meter Medley relay with a time of 1:47.17, and then teamed with junior Eliana Ritt to earn seventh in the 400-meter Freestyle relay, with a time of 3:30.70.
Both relays earned All-State recognition and also set new school varsity records, Abbasse said.
