The boys on the Lake Orion varsity track and field team are doing their best to bring another OAA Red title to the school.

So far, the team has three decisive wins in the Red and if they can capture another title it will be the Dragon’s 10th title in a row over 11 years. The 2020 season was canceled due to the pandemic.

Head coach Stan Ford is in his 41st season as coach of the track and field team and knows that the Dragons can compete for the title if they stay focused and run their best at the league championship.

The Dragons will face their toughest opponent, the Rochester Adams Highlanders, on May 4 at Adams.

“We know that we run (against) Adams in our last dual meet and they’re going to be undefeated,” Ford said.

Lake Orion opened the season against Oxford, dominating the Wildcats, 83 to 45.

The Dragons won decisively against Clarkston in their second dual meet, 78-50, then went on to deliver a soul crushing defeat to the Rochester High School, thrashing Falcons 102-26 on April 20.

Lake Orion’s next meet is the Elmer Ball Invitational at Oxford High School on Saturday, where the Dragons will face runners from close to 30 teams.

Senior Stephen Brown continued his sprint dominance with wins in the 100m and 200m dashes, and both sprint relays along with senior Joey Thede, sophomore Raymond Payne and Dorian Hill.

Thede was also on the winning 1600m relay, along with winning the 110m high hurdles.

Senior Jacob Corless led a sweep in the 400m dash, along with Zach Petrycia and Ben Filias, and was on the winning 3200m, (along with Clayton Kuiper, Will Houvener and Adam Hafeli), and 1600m relays, (along with Thede, Zach Petrycia and Luke Peardon).

Senior Clayton Kuiper won the 800m run, Luke Peardon won the 1600m run, and Hong Bing Tang the 3200m run. Senior Josh Trudell won the 300m hurdles.

In the field events, junior Nick Eaton won the shot put, junior Ben Filias won the high jump and junior Caleb Jones won the long jump.

There were also a lot of depth points, and improved performances, Ford said.
