Library costs questioned

Goodrich – The Atlas Township board and residents are invited to the next Goodrich village council meeting to learn about library costs.
Shared library costs were previously questioned by township officials, who are now up to date on stalled payments.
‘They refused to pay, they felt they were being overcharged,? said village administrator Jakki Sidge.
Monthly maintenance costs split between the village and township include the cost of labor for both upstairs and downstairs cleaning, including kitchen and bathroom facilities, as well as exterior maintenance such as snow removal, said village administrator Jakki Sidge in an April 2005 interview with The Citizen. The cost of utilities and some library supplies are also split 50-50.
The village pays for capital improvements to the library, while the Genesee District Library supplies librarian wages, books, and computers through a county-wide millage.
Other furnishings and supplies, such as tables, chairs, and shelving are supplied through the Friends of the Goodrich Library group. Applications to join the group are available at the desk of the library, located at 10237 Hegel Road in downtown Goodrich.
The village council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 in the second-floor community room above the library.
