Lake Orion competitive cheer takes second in district competition, moves on to regionals

Lake Orion High School’s competitive cheer team hosted the district six competition last Saturday with the Dragons earning second place and a ticket to the regional competition this upcoming Saturday in Brighton.

The ladies went up against 11 other schools including rivals Clarkston High School and Oxford High School.

The Dragons maintained an early lead from the gate earning 235.90 in the first round, enough for them to step into third place just behind Romeo High School (236.40) and New Baltimore Anchor Bay High School (236.80).

In round two, the Lake Orion ladies scored highest overall with 299.58, about two points ahead of Romeo, Grand Blanc and New Baltimore Anchor Bay. This two point difference was enough to put the Dragons in first place heading into round three.

In round three, the Lake Orion team scored 315.70, the second highest score out of the 12 competing teams.

However, an impressive performance by New Baltimore Anchor Bay which earned the team five more points than the Dragons, put the Tars in first place.

The Dragons finished with 781.18 points overall, enough for second place just behind New Baltimore Anchor Bay who scored 784.54 and ahead of Grand Blanc (765.04) and Romeo (763.90). — M.K.
