Lake Orion boys swim and dive team kicks off season with back-to-back victories

The Lake Orion High School boys swim and dive team kicked off their season on Dec. 10 against Holly High School where the boys secured their first victory of the season, 127-56.

Individually contributing to the Dragon score were freshman Evan Fox who took first in the 500 yard freestyle, junior Brendan Ledtke who placed top in the 100 yard freestyle.

Additionally, junior Dane Herrick was awarded top honors in both the 100 yard butterfly and 50 yard freestyle.

In the 200 yard medley, Lake Orion A, consisting of Fox, Herrick, sophomore Cooper Clausen and freshman Wyatt Pawlaczyk took first with a time of 1:46.79.

Lake Orion B placed third in the medley, with a team of juniors Kyle Manganello and Michael Pavelich, along with freshmen Andre Berriel and Adam Thelen.

Senior Alex Brent took command of the diving portion of the meet by claiming the lead.

On Dec. 12, the boys hit the road taking on Waterford United at Waterford Kettering where they claimed another victory, 144-71.

Individually, in the 100 yd freestyle event, Clausen and freshman Eddie Cromwell took first and second places respectively. While in the 500 yd freestyle event, sophomore Kevin Vanpoelvoorde taking first, and Ledtke in second and Pavelich in a close fourth.

Additionally, Thelen was strong in both the 100 butterfly and 100 yd breaststroke. Freshman Clayton Kuiper also finished well in the 200 yard freestyle.

The Dragons take on the Oxford Wildcats in the Lake Orion natatorium on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. after the Lake Orion Review goes to press. — M.K.
