Lake Orion baseball team snags another four wins and add two losses

The varsity baseball team had an eventful week starting on April 23 with the second game of their Stoney Creek tripleheader.
The boys won their first match up and were able to secure another win 11-3 the second time around.
Senior Josh Slayton dominated the plate driving in four runs on two home runs.
Singles by Chris Hege and Ryan McClellan, a home run by Slayton and a double by Teddy Hirschfield all in the first inning put the Dragons up 6-0 early in the game.
Matt Williams pitched for Lake Orion and only allowed six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out three.
The boys had another match up against Stoney Creek on April 25. It was third times the charm for the Cougars who defeated Lake Orion 4-3.
Stoney took the lead early in the first inning that remained unanswered until the fourth where the Dragons scored all three of their runs.
The boys were unable to hold onto the lead and found themselves tied 3-3 heading into the eighth inning.
A walk-off single played in favor of the Cougars ended the Dragon’s winning streak.
On April 27 the Dragons hosted Farmington, Riverview, Rogers City for a winners and losers play tournament.
The Dragons started off with a big 11-1 win over Farmington.
The boys tallied 14 hits in the game. Williams, Brendan Britt, Jared Stross, Hirschfield, and Kobe Manzo all had multiple hits in the game.
Next the Dragons took their first loss of the day to Riverview 13-9.
The boys held on for most of the game before Riverview pulled away in the final innings.
Despite losing, the boys still had 11 hits to Riverviews 12.
Hege, Hunter Sites, Gunnar Burchard, and Sam Staruch all had multiple hits for the Dragons.
Lake Orion was back to playing Farmington again for their third game of the tournament and snagged another win 8-5.
Pitcher Jake Rydquist went two and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out three and walking one.
The boys had 17 hits during the game. McClellan, Slayton, Hege, Sites, Burchard, Staruch and Drew Van Heck all managed multiple hits for the Dragons.
The Dragons final game was against Riverview. The boys took their opportunity for another win and ran with it finishing the game with an 8-5 victory.
Riverview had the 2-1 lead heading into the third inning but Lake Orion took the lead for good in the fourth inning scoring six runs.
On April 28 the Dragons headed to Jimmy Johns Field in Utica to take on Stevenson High School.
The low scoring game ended in a 1-0 loss for the Dragons.
Stevenson scored one run in the first inning and neither team scored the rest of the game.
The Dragons are now 10-5 overall and 3-0 in the OAA Red.
Their next match up will be against Clarkston on April 30 after The Lake Orion Review goes to press. — M.K.
