The second annual L.O. Palooza is Sept. 10 from 12-9 p.m. at the Wildwood Amphitheater.
The music festival features live entertainment and plenty of activities for kids, including a crafting area, potato sack races, a bounce house and pony rides. There is a petting zoo from 1-4 p.m.
In addition to the live acts, the L.O. Palooza includes a variety of shopping vendors, a beer tent with craft beers and wine, Tyler’s Bottle Service to collect bottles to donate deposits, a Cornhole Tournament hosted by MotorCity Cornhole, and a short performance by Fred Astaire World Champion Ballroom Dancers Cheryl Angelleli and Tamerlan Gadiroy.
“Cheryl is a quadriplegic in a wheelchair and is also a paralympian in swimming with two bronze medals in 2004 and two silver medals in 2008. She also holds 15 American records and three world records,” said Kristi Schons, The Daisy Project Board member.
All proceeds from the L.O. Palooza will go to The Daisy Project –Michigan to benefit the Let Them Play playground at Friendship Park. Let Them Play is a park open to all ages and is uniquely 100 percent wheelchair accessible. There are currently 2 wheelchair accessible swings and an accessible teeter-totter in the park.
The Daisy Project is hoping to add a specially developed Inclusive Whirl, which is a Merry-go-Round designed specifically for Let Them Play by Playworld Midstates.
The new ride will allow for up to four children in wheelchairs and ambulatory kids to ride together. The cost for the new equipment is estimated at $45,000, so The Daisy Project is hoping that the L.O. Palooza will be as big of a hit with the community as it was last year.
“Seven people are on The Daisy Project Board and we plan the whole event. This is a major event that requires months of planning. We do this in our ‘spare’ time,’” said Schons.
There is a minimum donation of $5; kids 12 and under are free. VIP tickets are $25 and include a L.O. Palooza stadium cup with free drink ticket, $1 off drinks in the beer tent, food baskets, free water and a raffle ticket to win Detroit Tigers tickets, custom cornhole boards and more.
Wildwood Ampitheater is at 2700 Joslyn Ct., at the south end of Civic Center Park.
