If you receive someone else’s mail, please put it back in the mailbox

I am writing about a problem that we all have concerning the post office mail carriers: receiving someone else’s mail in my mailbox.

I understand there is a huge volume of mail to be processed every day and mistakes will be made. I am NOT demanding that the post office employees give 100 percent accuracy. This is impossible.

My simple request is this: if you receive someone else’s mail, please do the right thing — put it back in the mailbox with the flag up. And if it’s not too much trouble, write on the envelope “not at this address.”

In the past month I have not received The Lake Orion Review, The Reader’s Digest, and two issues of TV Guide. These are paid subscriptions.

The people who get my mail by mistake do not return it. They KEEP it. This is a federal offense. It is very sad that you cannot trust your neighbors to do the right thing.
