Historical Society honors Schlicht

Mary Ann Schlicht, of Oxford, was recently presented an engraved plaque and lamp for her seven years of service as president of the Northeast Oakland Historical Society.
Mildred Schmidt, one of the Historical Society’s founders, made the presentation during the group’s spring meeting May 26 at the Lakeville Cemetery Auxiliary’s hall on Milmine Street.
Since 1995, Schlicht has volunteered her boundless energy and enthusiasm to the society and its museum at northwest corner of Washington and Burdick streets. She was elected society president in 1997 and served in that capacity until last fall when Pat McMeans took over the office.
Over the years, Schlicht has put in many, many hours at the museum including overseeing the tours. She was also instrumental in helping develop a documentary about Oxford (The History and Pioneers of Oxford: The First 130 Years), which is available for sale at the museum on video ($20) and DVD ($22).
Schlicht plans to continue doing volunteer work for the society and museum. Those interested in joining the Historical Society can contact Pat McMeans at (248) 628-3833.
