Ed’s Broadway Gift & Costume will be holding their 3rd Annual Zombie Walk in downtown Lake Orion on September 24 at 8 p.m.
To celebrate Ed (Lloyd’s) 602nd birthday, zombie participants will be visiting 51 North, Lockhart’s, CJ’s, Valentino’s Ristorante and the American Legion Post 233 for hors d’oeuvres and special zombie themed drinks. The American Legion will have live entertainment from the Lapeer-based band, Salter.
“A lot of the other businesses get business from it too, business that they may not get otherwise. I think it helps and it’s a win-win for everybody,” said Lloyd Coe, owner of Ed’s.
The Orion Area Christmas Parade will be receiving 100 percent of the funds from the Zombie Walk. Besides delicious snacks and gruesome costumes, participants will also be included in several raffles.
“(Kathy) asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday and I said let’s do a zombie walk,” said Coe. “We got the idea from a costume shop we know in Kentucky. They started a zombie walk in Louisville… it grew and the last time I talked to them it had over 1,000 people.”
Lloyd and his wife Kathy Coe hope to see their zombie walk grow to be as large as the Louisville event. In 2015 they were able to donate over $800 to the Orion Area Christmas Parade fund. This year they anticipate having over 100 people. Due to the large amounts of expected zombie walkers, the Coe’s have decided to have participants start at different locations and all end the walk at the Legion for live entertainment.
