The Dragon grapplers had a single match against Birmingham Seaholm Jan. 15 and got their first league win with a score of 50-27.

Lake Orion wrestlers had seven pins on the night: seniors Andrew Miller and Issac Kinne, junior Dominic Orselli, sophomores Ryder Smith and Cavan McIntyre and freshmen Judah Kinne and Dorian Hill all won by fall.

Rounding out the winners of the night were senior James McCoy with a technical fall, and junior Anthony Vellucci with a win-by-decision.

Lakeland Invitational

With the winter storm dumping lots of snow on Friday and Saturday, the Lakeland Invitational, an individual tournament with each wrestler’s wins combining for a total team score, was pushed back to Sunday.

Despite only having seven wrestlers earning team points, the Dragons came away with a third-place finish.

Dominic Orselli earned a first-place finish, while Dorian Hill and senior Mason Slocum fell one match short with second place finishes. Also placing were Anthony Vellucci, James McCoy, senior Nick Nowakowski and Cavan McIntyre in third place; and senior Daniel Zeka getting a fourth-place medal.

The highlight of the day was senior Mitch Young, a first-year wrestler, winning the consolation finals in his first varsity tournament.

The wrestlers will be back in action tonight at Rochester Adams and Saturday at Flint Hamady.
