The Lake Orion grapplers returned to action last Wednesday facing Waterford Kettering and Warren De La Salle.

The team started strong against De La Salle winning the first five matches. They proceeded to take the next seven out of nine bouts resulting in a 62-11 victory.

Against Kettering, it was more of a back-and-forth affair.

Kettering and Lake Orion split the weight classes with all of Kettering’s matches resulting in pins. All but two of Lake Orion’s wins were by pin thereby suffering a loss by only 6 points, 42-36.

Freshman Chad Parker (103 pounds) and Junior Judah Kinne (285) recorded two pins on the night. Freshman Luke Brown (112) and junior Ryder Smith (125) both recorded a pin and decision.

Sophomore Abe Luebbert (145), seniors Anthony Vellucci (160) and Dominic Orselli (171) earned two victories but benefitted from voids.

Quad meet

Two days later the Dragons hosted Midland, South Lyon and Utica Henry Ford II and held their annual Senior Night. Seniors Timo Nurmi, Anthony Vellucci and Dominic Orselli, together with their parents, were introduced to the crowd.

All three seniors contributed to the sweep of all three opponents that evening. The Dragons had a balanced attack the entire meet, beating all teams by virtually the same score.

Midland was the first victim, falling 41-25, followed by South Lyon 40-29.

The Henry Ford match was equally competitive but with the Falcons voiding four weight classes, the home team breezed through the contest with a 48-22 triumph.

Many Dragons went undefeated on the night. Kinne and Orselli recorded three pins in dominating fashion. Junior Jake Corliss (189) managed two wins, and senior Timo Nurmi (189) came in against South Lyon to record a victory by pin.

A strong execution by all team members produced winning performances by most of the Dragons.

This week will conclude the shortened regular season of wrestling. On Wednesday the team travels to Roseville and Saturday will be the wrap up at Warren Mott.
