AT&T Michigan Pioneers presented 40 backpacks filled with school supplies to students in need at Blanche Sims Elementary School on September 9.
The backpacks included paper, folders, pencils and several other necessary items for students’ success.
This marks the 16th consecutive year that the AT&T Pioneers have participated in the “Tools for Learning” campaign. AT&T Pioneers plan to distribute more than 2,600 backpacks across Michigan this fall.
“AT&T called and asked if we had a need for backpacks, which we certainly do. They are going to donate backpacks so our kids can have their school supplies and backpacks for the school year,” said Blanche Sims Principal, Jennifer Goethals. “We are very excited.”
The AT&T Pioneers chapters are composed of active employees and retirees who volunteer their own time to help and improve the communities around them.
Michigan Chapter 10 Pioneer volunteers, located in Southfield, raised over 300 backpacks in their office, whereas in previous years have only raised around 150, said AT&T employee and Pioneer volunteer, Ken Kamman.
“Each year, (AT&T Pioneers) lead the ‘Tools for Learning’ campaign, raising money and buying supplies to support thousands of students heading back to school,” said Jim Murray, president of AT&T Michigan.
Teachers and educators delivered the 40 stuffed backpacks to students who are currently enrolled at Blanche Sims, with the offer from AT&T that more could be provided if they were needed.
