A special meeting of the Oxford Public Fire and EMS Commission on Thursday, April 8 was cancelled due to the lack of a quorum among the board’s village council members.
All seven township board members were present, but only one village councilman, Dave Bailey, was in attendance.
According to OPFEC’s by-laws a quorum of both the township board (at least four members) and the village council (at least three members) must be in attendance to hold a meeting.
An April 7 e-mail from village Councilman Steve Allen to township Supervisor Bill Dunn explained in advance why there would be no village quorum.
‘Per our conversation yesterday, due to work requirements, vacations, and other previous commitments, the village council will not have enough members available to constitute an OPFEC quorum for this meeting,? Allen wrote.
The special OPFEC meeting was called by township Trustees Jerry Dywasuk and Charles Kniffen to discuss the investigation into alleged misuse of the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) system by a village police dispatcher.
OPFEC contracts with the village for fire/EMS dispatch services.
Another special OPFEC meeting has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 16. Its purpose is two-fold according to the agenda.
The first item involves a closed session meeting regarding the litigation Gary Ford v. OPFEC.
The second is labeled ‘Discussion of dispatch services.?
