Scripps runner proving she “runs like a girl”

Sophie Novak, 8th grader at Scripps Middle School, is setting cross country records across Michigan.
Novak has been running and participating in 5k’s since age 7.Novak was undefeated at her meets for the 2016 season and is currently ranked 3rd in Michigan for girl’s middle school cross country, with records close to that of boys. She was also the Oakland County Champ two years in a row at the Oakland County Championship Meet with a time of 12:38.
Novak’s personal best for this season was 11:37 in the two-mile race at the North Oakland Middle School League Meet. She has also placed first at the 17th Annual Pumpkin Invitational, held at Lake Orion High School on Oct. 26, with a time of 12:03. Scripps placed in second place overall at the Pumpkin Invitational.
Novak says she is very passionate about running and is looking forward to running for Lake Orion High School. –G.T.
