It was an afternoon of fun and prizes as the Oxford Downtown Development Authority hosted its annual Scarecrow Festival Saturday. CC’s Cyber Cafe’s creepy pirate scarecrow won first place in DDA business category. Covered Wagon Saddlery’s mooning scarecrow took second place.
In the adult category, the Village of Oxford won first place for its scarecrow scene, entitled ‘Life’s a Beach,? depicting a straw shark eating a swimmer. The MOMS Club of Oxford won second place in the adult category.
Teacher Chad Boyd’s second-grade class at Clear Lake won first place in the children’s category for their scarecrow.
Oxford Village also won best overall recipe in the Chamber of Commerce chili cook-off. The Oxford-Orion Kiwanis Club’s chili won the people’s choice award while the Oxford Leader’s entry won most original recipe.
