The Perry Street sanitary sewer pipe replacement project began on Aug. 7.

VIL Construction of Sterling Heights was awarded the job at a cost of $223,315.

“We have been watching the pipe for a while and it is now time to replace it,” said Village Manager Joe Young.

The construction will allow for the de-watering, destruction and removal of the old pipe system and replacement, plus connection of the new pipe.

The sewer system is under Perry Street so the pavement was removed to make way for construction.

The road has been scraped down to dirt and the sewer replacement is scheduled to start.

When completed, the road will be re-paved, driveways and sidewalks affected by the construction will be replaced.

The road is closed to traffic and is scheduled to reopen on Sept. 2.
