One Thirty Nine Delights, one-woman baking show

Stephanie Gillam had planned on spending her days as a journalist, but after graduating from a university, she found that life had a different plan for her.
“I was working a 40-hour a week job and didn’t know what to do in my spare time, so I started baking. People knew I enjoyed it and they started asking me to bake for them, which is really how my business started,” said Gillam.
Gillam has worked under her business name One Thirty Nine Delights for three years, but has been baking for friends and family for six years. Gillam wanted a company name that prompted people to ask what it means, or for them to realize the business name is after Psalm 139: 13-16 — about God having a plan for you before you were born.
While her business is still mainly spread through word-of-mouth, Gillam has made advances in her clientele. Since she first started baking for business, Gillam has progressed from wedding showers, to graduation parties, to full-scale weddings.
“Once I pursued the business, the ball really got rolling. Before it was just a hobby for the weekend and now it’s what I do almost every day,” said Gillam.
One Thirty Nine Delights caters to every audience with many different flavors of cupcakes-big and mini, cheesecake cupcakes, gluten free cupcakes and delectable French Macaroons.
In January, One Thirty Nine Delights provided cupcakes and cheesecake services to four Hollywood Market locations: Lake Orion, Rochester Hills, Madison Heights and Troy.
“Now I can say my goods have been sold in a grocer, which is really neat. Definitely not anything I thought the business would ever be,” said Gillam
One Thirty Nine Delights recently won First Place in the Dessert Dash at the Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Expo at Canterbury Village on September 22. Gillam is extremely excited to have won that honor.
One Thirty Nine Delights also participated in the DDA Flower Fair over Mother’s Day Weekend.
Baked good lovers can find One Thirty Nine Delights mini bread loaves, gluten free and regular, featured at A Bean To Go in downtown Lake Orion, and can find catering information at onethirtyninedelights.com.
