Mia’s Cleaners collecting coats for kids

Mia’s Cleaners is offering people a way to help keep needy children warm and toasty this winter.
From Nov. 21 through Dec. 19, the Oxford-based dry cleaner is collecting gently used and new winter coats for the Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids program.
‘There’s so many people in need out there right now especially with our tough economic times here in Michigan,? said Mia Asta, who’s co-owned and operated the business with her husband, John, since 1999.
Any used coats in good condition brought in as donations will be cleaned by Mia’s free of charge, then donated to the Salvation Army.
Each kid-sized coat entitles the donor to a 20 percent discount on their next dry cleaning order at Mia’s.
‘This is one way for us to help somebody else, but also thank the people that want to help,? Asta said. ‘It’s just kind of a win-win for everybody.?
Asta said she realizes money’s tight all around these days, but that’s why it’s so very important to still donate to charity whenever possible. ‘Even though times are hard in all industries right now, you still have to be able to give and help others,? she said. ‘That’s part of what we’re trying to do. And in return, our business may flourish a little more.?
Mia’s Cleaners is located at 206 S. Washington St. inside the Oxford Marketplace shopping center.
