Lake Orion’s girls cross country team started off their season strong by placing 1st at the Oakland University Golden Grizzly Invitational and placing 2nd at the OAA Jamboree Red Division at Troy High School. Last weekend the team placed 4th at the Holly/Duane Raffin Invitational with help from top finishers, sophomore, Sophie Novak (5th place) and, senior, Allison Sherman (7th place).

The team is returning six varsity runners from their 2017 state-qualifying season. Head coach Debi McDonald believes the team will continue to have strong performances at future meets.

“Our two front runners will be Sophie Novak and Allison Sherman. Following the leaders will be a tight pack to help the team with their successful season. Senior Olivia Ames, has trained hard this summer to help close the gap from losing a team member from last year,” Coach McDonald said.

Captains this season are Olivia Ames, Allison Sherman, Lindsey Smiles and Lindsey Thelen. And a few runners to watch will be Anna Pheasant, Alayna Tisch, Leah O’Leary and Grace Guccione.

The girl’s next meet will be the Linden Classic at Linden High School this Saturday.
