Injuries stifle varsity but freshmen are county champs

Lake Orion’s boys varsity track team, with six of their top runners out with injuries, had a tough meet in the Oakland County championships last week.
The freshmen boys fared much better, winning the ninth grade county title.
Coach Stan Ford said there were still some great efforts.
“Those that were able to run performed very well under the circumstances,” he said.
La’Juan Broner continued his hot streak in the 100m dash and anchoring the 4x100m Relay. La’Juan
ran a personal best in the 100m prelims, and then another in the finals with an 11.08 for a fifth place finish, in a very tough field.
La’Juan, along with Caleb Campbell, Andrew Schoenjahn, and Dallas Cleary also finished fifth with a season best for that particular team, with a time of 44.23.
Matthew Arenz, moving up from his usual 800m to the 1600m, ran a personal best of 4:25.43, achieving another 5th place finish. To complete the Dragons scoring was Greg Maki who placed sixth in the pole vault with a 12-foot vault.
Lake Orion’s freshman boys track team showed that there is a bright future for the Dragons by winning the ninth grade county championship, held at Milford.
The victory was secured on the final event, the 1600 meter relay. Thomas Moreman, Phillip Angelos, Russell Hastings, and Sam Knight secured the meet victory by winning the 1600 relay.
Thomas Moreman also won the 110m high hurdles, and took second in the 300m hurdles.
Ryan Mulcahy won both the 1600m and 3200m runs, setting a personal best in the 1600m.
The pole vaulters scored a total of 14 pts. with Zach Dinverno placing third and Jaden Fisher fourth.
Sebastian Marku was fourth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 38-feet-six inches.
Caleb Campbell was fourth in the long jump, and Sam Knight was third in the 400m dash.
