Industrial accident burns worker

An industrial plant in Oxford Township Monday left an employee with second-degree burns.
Oxford firefighters were called to RLM Industries (100 Hummer Lake Rd.) at 10:39 a.m. for a reported structure fire.
According to Fire Chief Jack LeRoy, plant workers were casting some steel when the ingot fell and dumped molten steel on the floor.
Some of the molten material splashed onto the arms of a 27-year-old Imlay City man who suffered second-degree ‘spatter burns? as a result, according to LeRoy.
The victim was transported to the POH Medical Center in Pontiac.
As for the fire, LeRoy characterized it as very minor. Using extinguishers, workers ‘had the fire out when we got there.?
Some equipment was damaged, but not the building itself.
The fire did produce excessive smoke throughout the plant, which Oxford firefighters ventilated.
