Oxford’s varsity wrestling team continued its winning ways last week. As a team, the grapplers advanced to the state competition in Battle Creek Friday by beating Bloomfield Lasher 73-3 and Linden 33-24 in team regionals held at Owosso.
‘Josh Villarreal had an awesome match and ended up winning team regionals for us,? said Coach Scott Couch.
Villarreal pinned Linden wrestler Tommy Fisher to win the dual meet for Oxford. ‘Everybody’s come together to wrestle real well,? Couch said.
In the Division 2 individual regionals held at Linden Saturday, Oxford had five wrestlers qualify for the state competition at the Palace of Auburn Hills Thursday, March 6.
Zach Line won the 215-pound weight class.
Matt Frisch (112), Bo Cantara (140) and Dylan Smith (285) scored second place finishes. Kyle Brammer (135) earned a fourth place finish in his weight class.
