A newspaper delivery person brought news of a garage fire to the owners of 1949 Thorntree Lane in Oxford Township on Monday, July 4.
Reported shortly after 2:30 a.m., the blaze completely destroyed a 572-square-foot detached garage containing a Land Rover and a couple of riding lawn mowers
‘A newspaper lady saw the flames and smoke, went up (to the house) and woke the people up,? according to Oxford Fire Chief Pete Scholz. ‘They tried putting it out with a hose and called us at the same time. We got there and it was on the ground already.?
Scholz estimated about $20,000 in structural damage, plus another $30,000 in contents.
There was an older model Cadillac parked next to garage, which also sustained fire damage ‘basically, from the windshield forward,? the chief noted.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation per standard procedure.
