Seven Oxford High School students tested positive for alcohol in their systems Friday, April 22 and were suspended as a result.
The students in question drew attention to themselves by ‘causing trouble in school,? according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s report.
Preliminary Breath Tests (PBTs) were administered by Sheriff’s Det. Ken Alderman to the seven girls, five of whom were 16 years old. The other two girls were 17 years old.
PBT results indicated blood alcohol contents ranging from .003 to .109. For those under age 21, a blood alcohol content of .002 or higher is considered legally intoxicated.
The two 17-year-olds are considered adults and were issued citations for minor consumption of alcohol.
Juvenile petitions were filed on the five 16-year-olds, according to the report. Juvenile petitions are basically requests to the prosecutor’s office seeking criminal charges against minors. In this case, the charge being sought is minor consumption of alcohol, a misdemeanor.
