And the Oscar goes to…

Brooke Chapman’s not a movie star, but for one brief moment she got to hold the gold reserved for Hollywood’s elite.
On Feb. 15, the Clear Lake Elementary fifth-grader touched the stuff dreams are made of when she picked up a genuine Oscar and posed for a photograph with it during a five-day visit to California.
‘It was really cool,? said Chapman, who’s favorite actor is Will Smith.
Chapman and her family visited the ‘Meet the Oscars? exhibition held at the Hollywood & Highland Center, the 387,000-square-foot complex which includes the Kodak Theatre, home to the Academy Awards.
Statuettes presented at the 80th Academy Awards held Sunday were all on display there.
So, what was it like to hoist the 13?-inch high gold statuette coveted by so many actors and actresses?
‘They’re actually really heavy,? Chapman said. Oscars weigh 8? pounds each.
While in Hollywood, Chapman’s family also visited the Walk of Fame, Grauman’s Chinese Theater and the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium.
They even ate lunch at a restaurant over looking the fabled Hollywood Sign located in the Hollywood Hills area of Los Angeles.
Although visiting Hollywood and holding a real Oscar was terrific, Chapman has no plans to go into acting.
Right now, she’s thinking about becoming a fashion designer. Maybe someday Chapman will win an Oscar for Best Costume Design.
