Oxford firefighters were dispatched to the Avalon Remodeling & Design Center at 3 S. Washington St. Monday morning after someone reported smelling a natural gas odor outside the building.
According to Fire Chief Jack LeRoy, it was determined one of the outside gas meters was leaking.
Fire personnel also determined there was no gas leakage inside any of the commercial buildings in that area of the southwest quadrant, the chief noted.
“Just outside,” LeRoy said.
A bank of six gas meters sits outside between the backdoors leading to Avalon and Rob’s Place, next door at 13 S. Washington St.
Firefighters sprayed a mixture of soapy water and anti-freeze on each of the meters to determine which one was leaking. The mixture will bubble whereever there’s a gas leak, LeRoy explained.
Consumer’s Energy was called and a worker was on site 20 minutes later to replace the faulty meter, the chief noted.
