During the March 26 Lake Orion Village Council meeting, President Ken VanPortfliet said the Road Commission for Oakland County is researching the possibility of putting a mini-roundabout at the three-way intersection of E. Flint, Miller and Orion roads.

A mini-roundabout has a single-lane and a small diameter, and are smaller than regular roundabouts and offer the same traffic benefits but have a smaller footprint. They are used primarily where traffic speed is low.

“This is the very first one in Oakland county, it’s very exciting. If it happens it will be this summer,” VanPortfliet said.

Also at the meeting:

The power panels at Children’s Park have been re-bid reducing the price from $18,079 to $11,510. The revised bids were amended to include aluminum wire instead of copper, lowering the panels to 200 amps and having the Village DPW trench and do the restoration work instead of sub-contracting that portion out in the bid process.

The project was approved by the council and the projected completion date is May 31.

VanPortfliet made the motion to appoint Village Manager Joe Young as an alternate to the DDA Board of Directors. The council unanimously approved the motion.

VanPortfliet is the village’s representative on the board.

“If another member of the DDA board is unable to participate in a vote, Young’s vote would assist in having a quorum and help getting things to move along. It gives us the flexibility to carryon instead of having to postpone. This will allow the village to move along quickly when needed, and this will allow that additional assistance for this to happen,” VanPortfliet said.

Joe Young stated that the bidding of the $4 million water main project phases one and two are due by April 23.

He added that construction of both phases should start in July.
