Congratulations to the Oxford varsity wrestling team who won its first outright Flint Metro League title since 1999.
Oxford won the league tournament held in Holly Saturday with 190.5 points, edging out second place finisher Holly, who scored 173.5 points.
The grapplers claimed medals in nine out of 14 weight classes (two firsts, four seconds and three thirds).
Medal winners make up the All-League wrestling team for 2008. First Team includes Zach Line (215) and Matt Frisch (112).
Bo Cantara (140), Mike Myer (145, Geoffrey Charles (171) and Dylan Smith (275) made the Second Team. Earning spots on the Third Team were Mike Thomas (103), Kyle Brammer (135) and A.J. Logan (160).
Twelve of Oxford’s 14 grapplers finished among the top four in the tourney.
One of the highlights was Frisch’s upset of Clio’s Hermon Gillum in the 112-pound class. Frisch pinned Gillum, a Division 2 state runner-up last year at 103, in 5:25.
Oxford finished with a perfect 8-0 season in league dual matches.
