OXFORD TWP. ? Whoever broke into the Medicine Room Pharmacy Sunday didn’t steal anything, but the burglar(s) did leave something behind ? a large hole in the roof.
Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were called to 765 S. Lapeer Road around 11 a.m. to investigate a breaking and entering at the building ? which also houses Meadowbrook Family MedCenter ? after a passerby reported seeing a hole in the roof.
Apparently, some unknown person(s) cut a hole in the roof on the southwest side of the building and gained access to the attic.
Meadowbrook Family MedCenter’s Office Manager Jean O’Halloran said the hole was not a clean cut and looked as if someone had ‘chipped away? with an axe to get through.
Once inside the attic space, the suspect(s) broke through the ceiling and climbed down into an office next to the pharmacy, but took nothing.
Instead, the suspect(s) climbed back up into the attic and busted a second hole through the ceiling, this one leading into the pharmacy, which was apparently the intended target.
However, after checking his inventory, cash and other valuables, the Medicine Room’s owner told deputies it appears nothing was stolen.
Sheriff’s Det. John Robertson speculated that the suspect(s) ‘bolted? when an alarm was triggered in the pharmacy.
Deputies were called to 765 S. Lapeer Road earlier that day around 1 a.m. to respond to a general alarm, according to the report.
However, the report stated the deputies ‘did not see any damage at the ground level at that time? and ‘were unable to see the damage to the roof.?
The sheriff’s crime lab was able to obtain a footprint from the scene.
One of the chairs used by the suspect(s) to climb back into the attic ‘had the outline of a footprint on it made by drywall dust that had fallen from the ceiling,? the sheriff’s report stated.
The break-in is currently under investigation, Robertson said.
A similar break-in was committed in Brandon Twp. around 1:19 a.m. Sunday. Some unknown person(s) entered the Cracker Barrel General Store at 5500 Oak Hill Rd. through the roof top.
Because both break-ins occurred around the same time, Robertson said it appears they’re not related.
